Homebuyer Education:
A Key Step for Dream For All Success

If you’re planning to use CalHFA’s Dream For All or any CalHFA home loan program, there’s one important step you can’t skip — completing homebuyer education and counseling.

CalHFA believes that informed buyers make happier, more successful homeowners, and this course is designed to help you feel confident every step of the way.

🏡Who Needs to Take the Course?

Only one borrower on the loan, specifically, one first-time homebuyer who will live in the home needs to complete the course.

So if you’re buying with a co-borrower, only the occupying first-time buyer has to take it.

💻 Option 1: Take It Online

CalHFA only accepts one online course:
👉 Click here: eHome’s 8-hour Homebuyer Education and Counseling course

  • Cost: $100
  • Includes: A required one-hour, one-on-one counseling session
  • Important: Other online courses like Framework or HomeView do not qualify because they don’t include that personal counseling component.

You can complete the eHome course at your own pace from home, and then schedule your one-on-one session before closing on your loan.

🧑‍🏫 Option 2: Take It In Person or Virtually

If you prefer a live learning experience, you can take the course in person or virtually through:

  • NeighborWorks America, or
  • Any HUD-Approved Housing Counseling Agency

Fees vary by organization, but you’ll get the same official certificate that CalHFA requires.
